Hey, remember that mysterious dead body police fished out of Lake Merced last month? Today we have a few more details on the deceased, including gender and skin color.

Christopher Wirowek, speaking for the San Francisco Medical Examiner's office, says that the deceased is a "light-skinned female," age as yet unknown.

She "had been in the water for an extended period of time prior to being discovered," Wirowek says.

She was discovered, floating face down, in the reeds at the north end of the lake on January 10 by a kayaking instructor and his student.

It reportedly took two SFFD divers to drag her body across Lake Merced to Harding Park, where they then removed her remains from the water.

Wirowek says that she has yet to be identified, in large part because she'd been in the water for so very long. His office is attempting to use dental and DNA records to figure out who she is, Wirowek says.

At publication time, Wirowek could not speak definitively to the cause of death, and says that the investigation is ongoing.
