A motorcyclist is dead and a pedestrian has been injured after a collision on Van Ness Avenue and McAllister Street Saturday afternoon.
According to San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Albie Esparza, at about 5:02 Saturday afternoon, police responded to reports that a motorcyclist sideswiped a black Lexus in the Civic Center area.
Esparza says that after the motorcyclist collided with the Lexus, the impact of the crash sent the motorcyclist flying off the bike and into a pedestrian.
The pedestrian suffered non-life threatening injuries, Esparza says, but the motorcyclist died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.
Due to family notification issues, the San Francisco Medical Examiner had not released the motorcyclist's name at publication time.
Citing an ongoing investigation, police couldn't provide any additional details on the circumstances of the crash. Hoodline, however, notes that "the incident comes less than a week after high-visibility pedestrian crosswalks were installed at Van Ness and McAllister as part of the ongoing McAllister Streetscape Improvement project."
