An 18-year-old man continues to fight for his life Tuesday after an early-morning shooting at Coit Tower.
Bay City News reports via CBS5 that the victim, who hasn't been identified, flagged down a vehicle near Columbus Avenue and Broadway Street at around 3 a.m. Sunday.
He told the driver than he had been shot, and asked to be taken to San Francisco General Hospital. There it was discovered that the man was suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Though the victim was unable to provide investigators with much detail regarding the shooting before he was rushed into surgery, SF Weekly reports a police spokesperson as saying that the shooting actually occurred at Coit Tower, which is multiple blocks from where the victim was picked up (you can see the distance between the two locations in the map above).
Police did not provide an explanation for how the shooting victim got from one location to the other, citing an ongoing investigation.
According to police, the suspect in the shooting is still at large, and the victim remains hospitalized. Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call SFPD's anonymous tip line at 415- 575-4444 or to send a tip by text message to TIP411 with “SFPD” in the message.
