How about that super expensive midterm election, huh? It killed a couple thousand trees just in local races alone, got the doctors all really worried that they won't be able to party on weekends anymore, and pitted communist against communist in the Assembly. The great, fickle, national pendulum swung back toward the Republicans in Congress, which if you've been alive for more than a few years you know is just how it always goes, pretty much every eight years. And here in San Francisco the race remains fairly tight between David Chiu and David Campos for that hotly contested seat in the State Assembly — Chiu has a slight lead of 2,400 votes before absentee and provisional ballots have been counted, 51 to 49 percent, which means that race is probably still too close to call.

The races for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, U.S. Congress, etc. all went as planned. The Democrats all won. Jerry is still governor by a huge margin. Gavin, Kamala, Nancy, Jackie, et al, are safe.

Also, all the city supervisors up for reelection — Scott Wiener, Jane Kim, Katy Tang, Mark Farrell, and Malia Cohen — get to keep their jobs, and none of those races were even close.

The minimum wage increase passed by a landslide!

It's a bit of a sad day for progressives, though, with Prop G going down in flames — that would have created a graduated transfer tax on the sale of multi-unit buildings within the first five years of purchase, which was intended to curb Ellis Act evictions for the purpose of flipping buildings. That prop failed 54 to 46 percent.
