We pose the question above not because we believe that you are anything but inessential at your place of work, or because we think that you do not need the money. After all, you'll notice that SFist has current content today, so Jay and I are right there with the rest of you worker bees.

But perhaps you're not that inessential today, or have time you can take off, or are alone in the office while everyone else "works from home"? Are you sure you don't feel a tickle in your throat? A teensy desire to barf? Here's why you should "fall ill" right now and start your weekend early, if you can do so without horrible consequences.

Oh my god this weather
Look at that photo. I took that about five minutes ago, from the street near my Outer Sunset apartment. See how you can tell I was standing in the shade? It was still warm enough for a tank top and shorts, even in the dark — stepping into the sun, I felt pretty toasty. If, as many people say, the Outer Sunset has some of the worst weather in San Francisco, that it stands to reason that if it's absolutely perfect out here, it'e even more perfect wherever you are. As we noted yesterday, it will not always be like this outside. If you can get away with it, call in sick.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass starts today
So there's kids' stuff from 10:30-noon, but after that you can catch Buckwheat Zydeco at 1:15, John Prine at 2:40, or just stake out seats for Lucinda Williams' 4:30 show, or Ryan Adams' or Yo La Tengo's 5:45 sets. Friday is the least crazy-packed day of the free event, so this is your ideal opportunity to head over for the duration. Here's today's full schedule and here are our picks for the fest, take a look at both as you set your Out of Office email, subject lined "Horrible Flu."

The Giants have their first playoff game today
We just told you a bunch of places to go to catch the SF Giants in their first post-season game against the Washington Nationals, or you can just stay home and watch it from the couch (it's on TV on Fox Sports 1)! It starts at 12:07, so you should probably start having "symptoms" now so your sickly-voiced call to your boss seems that much more convincing.

Gone Girl opens today
Gone Girl, the David Fincher helmed adaptation of Gillian Flynn's megahit novel, opens in San Francisco today (Looks like it's playing at a couple of our favorite movie theatres, too, so there's that). If you've read the book, you're probably approaching this film with a mix of excitement and fear — will Fincher fuck it up? If you haven't read the book, though, I'm so jealous that you'll get to watch the story unfurl, unspoiled. That's why I'm not going to say anything more, except that even I am bailing on work early today to go, so my money is where my mouth is on that one. Maybe I'll see you there.
