A sad detail in the cause of Robin Williams' reported suicide has been confirmed today.

Both TMZ and CBS are reporting, via the Marin County fire scanner audio, that the actor was found in his Tiburon home after having apparently hung himself. He was reportedly found somewhere inside the home, not in a garage or outbuilding. No suicide note found, both news organizations report.

Williams had reportedly been suffering severe depression in recent weeks, and had checked out of a rehab facility in Minnesota last month.

The San Francisco Chronicle and New York Times critic A.O. Scott have each penned excellent, personal obituaries, and the remembrances keep flowing in.

Update: Marin County Coroner's Division spokesman Lt. Keith Boyd confirmed at a press conference this morning that Williams hanged himself with a belt on Monday, August 11. He was found by his personal assistant in his bedroom around 11:35 a.m., where he was seated and slightly suspended in a chair, with the belt secured to a closet door and door frame. When the assistant found him, rigor mortis had set in and he was pronounced dead at 12:02 p.m. A preliminary investigation shows no evidence of a struggle or foul play. Boyd says a second press conference will address whether Williams left a note as well as if any drugs or alcohol were found in his system at the time of death.
