This weekend, Verified Twitter user William Shatner went on a rant on Twitter, about Twitter. His issue: People he has deemed "nobodies" getting verified on the social media platform—the coveted blue checkmark, he believes, should only be for famouses like himself. Kind of like how murder charges work...
His main target that spurred this whole thing is Engadget’s social media manager John Colucci, who is Verified but not Famous—you see, sometimes even if you aren't in a movie you get this distinction, most often this happens when you work for a media outlet.
@johncolucci Why are you even @verified? If this guy can get verified I'll nominate my Social Media guy.

@DashaPohoral @Numeson @verified @twitter and nobodies should not be verified because it shows a huge flaw in the Twitter system.

Shatner also feels that some jobs are "unimportant," unlike his job shilling for Priceline.
I want to know how Engadget has all these seemingly unimportant jobs with all @verified accounts. @Support it's a mockery. Want names? Contd

Shatner feels wronged, and starts to plan a Revolution:
Why is @GineokwKoenig, @RobertPicardo and so many other PUBLIC figures not @verified but a college student & editorial asst are? It's wrong

Maybe I need to request to be unverified? Who wants to be part of a broken system that folks can pay $ or reward cronies while others wait?
— William Shatner (@WilliamShatner) June 22, 2014
@verified @support unverify my account please

At press time, Shatner is still Tweeting about it, and is still Verified.
