An apparently very drunk 25-year-old San Francisco woman is in a Marin County jail after taking her 7-year-old son on a ride to San Rafael, getting lost, losing control of her car, and ending up crashing it into a muddy swamp. The incident happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on North San Pedro Road in San Rafael, in marshland near China Camp State Park, and as the Marin Independent Journal reports, the woman's name is Ashley Anderson. She was booked on suspicion of DUI, driving on a suspended license, and felony endangerment of a minor.
A San Rafael police cruiser happened by the scene and found Anderson's 1997 Honda Accord submerged in the muddy water up to its doors, with Anderson and her son still inside. He was able to free them both, and CHP officers then quickly left with Anderson in the back of a police vehicle, after she told them she had come from San Francisco and gotten lost. The boy had been unrestrained and sitting in the front seat of the car.
A cyclist passing by the scene told KTVU that he saw officers questioning the 7-year-old boy, and that "they immediately took the mom out, put her in the back of the cop car, and she just basically passed out and wasn't even coherent unfortunately."
Anderson is being held on $50,000 bail, and charges have not yet been filed.
