Regarding today's Muni sick-out: the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has let everyone know they shouldn't expect to have a timely commute home this evening and they would be better off making, "alternative transportation arrangements during a severe service shortage today."
In a press release, Muni chief Ed Reiskin apologized for all the messy lines and delays this morning, while subtly throwing some shade at the drivers who called in sick:
“I want to apologize to our Muni customers and others who have been negatively affected by today’s limited service,” said Ed Reiskin, SFMTA Director of Transportation. “While we have an operations plan in place to help Muni customers plan ahead this afternoon, we do anticipate delays and crowding. In addition, I want to thank the frontline Muni staff, Operators and Transit Fare Inspectors, who were at their posts today and helped keep this city moving under very difficult circumstances.”
To prepare the stuffed and limping Muni system for the evening commute, the SFMTA has made a few adjustments most of which affect the light rail Muni Metro lines and the express or limited stop bus lines. You can read all about those here or follow @SFMTA_Muni on Twitter. BART will still be honoring Muni fares within the city limits, but to take advantage of that you'll need to see the station agent with your proof of payment rather than tagging your Clipper card.
