A 55-year-old woman was slashed in the throat near the intersection of 19th and Valencia streets on Saturday evening after she asked a man on the street where she could find the nearest bus stop. Rather than directing her to Mission Street where she could catch the 14-Mission or the 49-Van Ness, the suspect reportedly threatened to slice her throat, taking a swing at her with a knife.

The woman was cut in the neck, but her injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. She was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated.

The suspect, 72-year-old John Paul of San Francisco, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He was carrying a knife, a screwdriver and some scissors as well as a few outstanding local warrants.

In unrelated news, new condos at the intersection of 19th and Valencia are quickly breaking sales records and are apparently popular with older buyers.
