The woman killed by a Rec and Parks truck Thursday afternoon in Holly Park has been identified as 35-year-old Daly City mother Christine Svanemyr. She had been lying in the grass on the south end of the park around 2:20 p.m. yesterday afternoon when she was struck by the vehicle and taken to San Francisco General where she was pronounced dead.
Her young child was not injured in the incident.
The Rec and Park employee driving the vehicle initially fled the scene, but was found later and detained by police. SF Weekly is currently reporting that 46-year-old Thomas Burnoski, who has been with the Rec and Parks department since 2006, was driving the truck at the time of the incident.
Neighbors speaking with the Chronicle said there have been prior complaints about a city gardener driving recklessly on the grass in the park.
This morning, neighborhood blog Bernalwood noticed a small makeshift memorial had popped up amidst the news coverage.
