On Friday evening around 7 p.m., 33-year-old Shawnte Otis was shot while sitting in a parked car on the 100 block of Blythedale Avenue in Sunnydale. Over the past six months, the neighborhood has seen a number of seemingly random shootings within just a few blocks.
In Friday's shooting, Otis had been sitting in a car when two suspects approached and opened fire. Otis was hit and taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he later died from his injuries. According to SFPD, no suspects had been arrested as of Monday morning.
Back in May, two suspects also opened fire on three people driving on the same block. The three victims, aged 36, 50 and 71, managed to safely flee the scene in their vehicle, but their car was left with a bullet hole. Just a week before that incident another man who lived around the corner was shot multiple times when he stepped outside for a cigarette.
In June, two victims were found suffering from gunshot wounds just a block away at the intersection with Brookdale avenue around 1 a.m. one morning. Both were declared dead at the scene.
