A week after 24-year-old cyclist Amelie Le Moullac was struck and killed by a semi truck near Sixth and Folsom Streets, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition held a rally this morning to call for safer streets in SOMA.
The Bike Coalition would like to see the city improve safety for bikers in the neighborhood by turning Folsom into a two-way street and create a separated bike lane line the ones on Market Street or Fell Street. Le Moullac was struck by the big rig when it made a right hand turn through the bike lane she was riding in.
As we've mentioned before, there is a correct way to make a right turn with a bike lane, but where ever there is potential for traffic mishaps, local newsman Stanely Roberts is on it. In his People Behaving Badly segment yesterday, Roberts hit the streets of San Francisco to show just how not to make a right turn with a bike lane. Observe:
