Inside Scoop's faux-Cronut beat takes us to Oakland today, reporting that "Alexeis Filipello of Stag's Lunchette and Bar Dogwood in Oakland is hopping on the bandwagon. Along with independent pastry chef Amie Bailey, she’ll host a “Croughnut Popup...on Sunday, September 8 at 9 a.m. at Stag's."

Though we have yet to taste this (or any) fake Cronut (the pastry's creator, Dominique Ansel, has trademarked the name hence the onslaught of derivatives), we declare Stag's Lunchette's the best. Why? Because it's available in "creamsicle." Next to peanut butter and chocolate, orange and vanilla is the greatest flavor pairing.

Side note: We're surprised that the Mission, San Francisco's most cloying and self-impressed neighborhood, has yet to develop a Cronut knockoff. Much of that neighborhood seems like one big fake Cronut. Hmm. Perhaps it's only a matter of time. Anyway.
