Summer can be a drag in San Francisco, where the June Gloom often puts a damper on one's mood well into July and August. Luckily, sunnier and less windy weather is usually just a short drive away in any direction. Here are seven of our favorite getaway spots, we know you'll have your own to share in the comments.

BOONVILLE
So exceptional that they had to create their own language in order to keep city trash out, Boonville is one of the hidden gems of Anderson Valley. Each year they have the Pinot Festival, during the fall, but the real treat is a weekend stay at the Boonville Hotel. The small lodgings are perfect for getaways for weekends sans smartphones and deadlines.

COSTANOA LODGE
This eco-adventure resort in Pescadero is just an hour away, but you'll feel transported to a glamorous, NorCal style retreat far from workaday concerns. Costanoa Lodge is surrounded by rolling coastal hills and secluded beaches, giving you all access to California's natural beauty, where hiking, biking and on-site horseback riding come standard. Stay in one of Costanoa's tent bungalows and you'll feel like you're sort of roughing it (but not really), all while enjoying 'comfort stations' with hot showers, heated concrete floors, dry saunas and outdoor fireplaces.

INDIAN SPRINGS, CALISTOGA
Breeze through Napa and St. Helena and continue up the picturesque road to Calistoga, where this fixture of poolside relaxation has been operating since 1862. Four natural thermal geysers feed the pool and deposits of volcanic ash enhance spa treatments on the idyllic property, which also features adorable bungalows and extra rooms in the lodge next door. You don't have to stay overnight to enjoy the pool, but you do have to book a spa treatment. Life is tough, right?

THE PELICAN INN
Just 20 minutes over the Golden Gate Bridge, this is the site of our most deranged romantic getaway fantasies. There's just something about the whitewashed, ivy-covered inn, surrounded by fog and pine trees, that makes us swoon. And who doesn't love the hearty English country fare dished out by the Pelican's restaurant? Located right by Muir Beach, you've probably driven past this spot a million times and wondered, 'when oh when will I have an excuse to stay here?' Our advice: stop waiting and start treating yo'self.

TREEBONES, BIG SUR
While there are several state parks in Big Sur where drivers can pull in for a weekend of camping within earshot of the Pacific Ocean, Treebones has been offering modern-rustic accommodations in oceanside Yurts since before "glamping" was a thing. To really get back to a primal state, book the Human Nest, a treehouse/art sculpture made of woven branches. But with a heated oceanview hot tub, a farm-table restaurant and a sushi bar, you're never too far from the city's amenities.

THE RITZ, HALF MOON BAY
If you don't mind the golf courses interrupting your pristine coastal views, the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay can make a short drive from San Francisco feel like a honeymoon. Perfect for those who aren't much for the great outdoors (or leaving the hotel grounds at all, for that matter). Take in the sunset over the Pacific without stepping too far from the stunning patio bar and stay out late huddled around a fire pit with blankets and kit for making s'mores.

STAY FANCY IN SAN FRANCISCO
In lieu of leaving the City, why not stay inside the comfy confines of Baghdad by the Bay while staying at a luxury hotel here in San Francisco? You can choose from a bevy of fancy-ass selections, including the Ritz-Carlton (Parallel 37 is always nice), Campton Place (Michlein-star grub here!), and more. There's a reason why the city is world class tourist destination.
