As you may recall, none of the three known, still-kicking survivors of the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906 was able to make it for the anniversary festivities this past April 18 because of their advanced ages. And now one of them, Winnie Hook, 107, has passed on. Her family reports that she died at her home on Tuesday. Today she'll be honored at a ceremony at John's Grill (63 Ellis Street), the traditional dining spot for the annual commemoration.
That leaves only two known survivors of the quake: Ruth Newman, 111, who lives in Pebble Beach; and Bill Del Monte, 107.
George Quilici, another survivor, passed away last year at the age of 107.
