The man who was crushed under a BART train shortly before the evening commute yesterday afternoon was an apparent suicide, BART police say.

The man's name has only been identified as a 55-year-old San Francisco man, but after talking to witnesses who were on the platform before the incident around 4 p.m. yesterday, BART detective Rock Martinez said, "all signs point to a suicide." The man was reportedly stuck under the train and was still breathing about 20 minutes after BART police first responded to the scene, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.
