A robbery occurred this morning sometime after 3 a.m. involving three masked suspects at a marijuana grow on the 2100 block of Jennings Street in the Bayview. Police were called to the scene with the report of a robbery and managed to arrest two suspects, but a third suspect appears to have barricaded himself inside the building along with an unknown number of others, possibly employees.

The situation began at 3:50 a.m. when at least one suspect refused to surrender to cops, and it's believed that there are others inside the building with him. The standoff was ongoing as 9 a.m.

The Chron and other news sources are referring to the place as a marijuana dispensary, however we can't find a record of a sanctioned dispensary in this industrial district. It seems more likely that this was a grow operation connected to a dispensary. Grow operations are targeted by thieves in the hope that the operators won't be able to call in the authorities for fear of being arrested themselves.

We'll update you as we learn more.

Update: As of 8:30 a.m., four hostages were released from what has been confirmed to be a marijuana grow in a warehouse on Jennings. At 10 a.m. a SWAT team stormed the warehouse with a police dog, and the single suspect surrendered immediately, saying he didn't want to be bitten. No one was reported injured.

The owners of the grow, or whether it was a legally sanctioned operation, have not been identified.
