As is monthly tradition around here, we present our 10 favorite utterances from the March issue of The Nob Hill Gazette, "San Francisco's original social network." This month's issue is all about fashion, ultra-luxe retirement and the absurdity of parklets. Observe:

  • "Let’s start with fashion. [...] We also offer a peek at some of the most flamboyant men’s fashions seen in a long time, brought to you by stylist and writer T.J. Rudy." - Loid Lehrman introducing this month's men's fashions.

  • "...be sure to peruse the ultra-luxe retirement resorts around the globe on page 8." - Publisher Lois Lehrman, also from her monthly "Dear Readers" introduction.

  • "Just because you’ve stopped working doesn’t mean you have to stop living. Second homes and ritzy residences for those thinking about retiring are definitely dernier cri." - Teresa Rodriguez' piece about retiring in fashion.

  • "The models at Dior emerged from under the ground, rising out of undulating box hedges, wearing flowery designs, organic shapes, floral accessories—a delicious tribute by Raf Simons to the late Christian Dior’s passion for nature." - Gladys Perint Palmer, presumably the only person in San Francisco who cares about Paris Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013.

  • "[Jewelry designer Tina Breen Moylan] laments that some social climbers sport the fakes, no matter how gaudy, to get ahead. 'When you see someone dressed like Cinderella sitting at a table with no one else, it’s fake.' " - Beth Spotsqood quoting Moylan for a piece on Nob Hill Knockoffs

  • "While some of the friends mentioned were more than happy to dish on Real Versus Fake 2013, a few better known boldface names took a polite pass. 'I don’t think I can help with this particular article,' one responded. 'I’m not comfortable talking about this on the record,' replied another. The first rule about the Faux Club is: don’t talk about the Faux Club." - Spotswood again, show us how the sausage gets made when you try to grill the women of Nob Hill about their fake jewelry.

  • "The [Ford] Fiesta is a charming little car, offering very good fuel economy and good driving dynamics. It is well appointed, too, with a number of features that even the Bentley lacks—for example, an auxiliary input audio jack, sync voice activated systems (optional), and a six-speed automatic transmission (also optional)." - David Swig comparing a Ford Fiesta to a Bentley for Turbo R Sedan for obvious reasons.

  • "It could be said that menswear is celebrating a moment of liberation in 2013, freed from the strict protocols of gentlemanly attire." - T.J. Rudy's report on loud men's fashions allegedly hitting the streets.

  • "Progressively rebellious Parisian fashion house Rynshu plays with androgynous silhouettes and floral prints that challenge the status quo, adorning models with strands of black beads and Jackie-O sunglasses." - T.J. Rudy again, letting us dudes in on what we'll be wearing next season.

  • "The current pretty-up-SF hope is in so-called 'parklets,' roughly defined as three patio chairs and a pair of potted shrubs. The noble idea, known as 'Pavement to Parks,' is to spruce up the city one block at a time, but many parklets are so meager that you’re not always aware that you’re straddling one; some parklets are tinier than a bus shelter." - Gerald Nachman's always enjoyable Hometown Tourist column.
