A Sacramento man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his own 9-year-old son in a confusing and brutal incident that happened yesterday morning. His 12-year-old son survives and was home at the time of the incident. The mother was out of town at the time.

Police arrested 36-year-old Phillip Raymond Hernandez in the neighborhood near his home where the incident took place. Just before noon on Tuesday police were called to the house after two 911 calls. The boy was found dead from blunt force trauma, apparently from a hatchet.

Police have said there is not yet any explanation for Hernandez's alleged actions.
