The Tens, one of our favorite chroniclers of the weird and world-weary San Francisco streets is having an opening reception for his photo show Cash for Gold. Held this evening from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the event will showcase Brian Brophy's photos urban subjects and mostly Mid-Market and Tenderloin locales. Warning: you will likely feel emotions.

Chris Perez of Ratio 3 Gallery decribes The Ten's work this way:

"Brian Brophy's photographs capture the loneliness and despondency that the city can so easily disguise with its majestic views, romantic architecture, and urban redevelopment. Brian not only sees the stark harshness of the city, but also the uneasy isolation that seems to swallow everyone here at some point in their lives."

Expect free wine and beer, plus photography for sale, from which 30% of any profits made will be donated to the AIDS Legal Referral Panel. The opening is being held in Supervisor Jane Kim's City Hall office, and we have it on good authority that she always wears nice shoes.
