As your official source of all things weird-looking and adorable in the greater Bay Area, SFist feels compelled to share with you these photos of elephant seal pups spotted by ace nature photographer David Cruz last weekend at Año Nuevo State Park in San Mateo County. The park is a popular breeding spot for the snout-nosed pinnipeds and an appropriate place to start a new year.
Want to get a close-up look at the seal pups for yourself? Don't go it alone, you might piss off a bull with all your gawking at hot seal sex. Instead Año Nuevo offers guided walks throughout the breeding season until the end of March. On the weekend of January 26th and 27th the park will also host a Seal Adventure Weekend, which allows visitors extra access for one day only. Tickets cost $50 per day and benefit the Coastside State Parks Association, which works to protect the beaches and habitats along the San Mateo coast.
