Word arrived today that Petar's Restaurant & Lounge in Lafayette, with its dancefloor and hipster-approved karaoke-DJ-emcee Diamond Dave Hosley singing his own versions of today's pop hits on weekends, is closing as of this weekend. For those not familiar, Diamond Dave has been doing his unique schticky schtick at Petar's (and various weddings) for 26 years now, and hopefully he will continue elsewhere once he lands a new residency. He became virally famous last summer when Gawker picked up on his promo video, in which he can be seen presiding over Petar's dancefloor and singing a medley of 50 Cent, the Bee-Gees, Sinatra, Cee-Lo Green and Louis Armstrong (impersonations included!), all while St. Mary's undergrads sleepily bob their heads and shake their booties.
