First things first: Don't drink and drive. Just don't. It should go without saying that people who drive drunk are the worst. If we find out tomorrow, dear readers, that any one of you was even buzzed driving on New Year's Eve, we're going to personally call your mother. If that's not motivation enough to designate a driver, SFPD would like to remind you that they will be, once again, stepping up enforcement during tonight's festivities.
As part of that increased enforcement, the department will be running a DUI Checkpoint tonight from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. January 1st at Eighth and Folsom Streets in SoMa. Keep in mind, of course, that the highly visible checkpoint won't be the only place where officers will be on the lookout for drunk drivers. As Captain Denis O'Leary of SFPD's Traffic Unit announced, "If you are caught driving impaired, you will be arrested. No warnings. No excuses." So, unless you want to spend the early hours of 2013 in the clink — or worse — we suggest making safe arrangements for your ride home.
