The man who was struck and killed by a Muni Metro train Friday morning near Montgomery Station has been identified as 37-year-old Aman Melles of Oakland. As the Chron reports.

It's still not known why Melles was in the tunnel or if his death was was a suicide or an accident, but he was "seen walking along a raised catwalk in the tunnel 700 yards east of Montgomery Station just before 7:30 a.m." before he was struck by an inbound J train.

The incident led to a major commuter headache Friday morning as Muni was shut down between West Portal and Embarcadero Stations for several hours starting at rush hour.
