A few reviews: Friday's Rite of Spring by the Bad Plus with SF Performances, Wednesday's Moby-Dick at SF Opera, András Schiff in a concert jointly hosted by the SF Symphony Project San Francisco, and by SF Performances last Sunday, and the SF Symphony performance of Pärt, Bartók and Respighi the prior Friday evening.

The Bad Plus at Herbst: The Rite of Spring, Igor Stravinsky's revolutionary score for Les Ballets Russes sprung up 99 years ago. The SF Symphony will celebrate its centenary next June, but in the mean time jazz trio the Bad Plus re-interpreted the score at Herbst on Friday, hosted by SF Performances. A triplet of Mission-esque looking guys from Minnesota playing Stravinsky-inspired jazz could have spelled disaster. On paper, it looks like an awful idea. András Schiff would kill the MJQ for doing this to Bach.
