Heads up, Space Camp alumni: due to inclement weather forecasts down in Florida, NASA has postponed the Space Shuttle Endeavour's Bay Area flyover to this Friday, September 21st. In addition to the change of date, the space agency has also released some additional details on the free public flyover viewing and celebration that will take place this Friday at Moffett Field in Mountain View.
The Shuttle Endeavour is now scheduled to arrive in the Bay Area for the Moffett field flyover sometime between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Friday morning, weather permitting. We still don't have an exact flight plan for the shuttle, but NASA says Endeavour and its 747 carrier will be flying low at about 1,500 feet above the various Northern California landmarks. In the meantime, NASA Ames Research Center will be keeping everyone in the loop via their Twitter feed.
Anyone hoping to skip work and get an in-depth look at the shuttle's history with NASA Ames can attend the free, public event Friday morning in Mountain View. The gates open bright and early at 6 a.m., and a presentation at 8 a.m. will culminate in the shuttle flyover around 9. (There will also be food trucks, obviously.)
Right this very second there are still car passes available for the event, which you can snag for yourself right here before all the nerds from the Google campus plan their fieldtrips. Speaking of which, because the event happens right around rush hour in Silicon Valley, commuters should take note that highways 101, 85 and 237 will probably be a mess Friday morning. Attendees to the event are encouraged to take public transit.
