The SFMTA just got a $21 million federal grant, most of which they'll be putting toward the purchase of eighteen 40-foot biodiesel-electric hybrid buses to replace a fleet of 20-year-old buses that are still in service. They'll also be putting $6 million of the funds toward improving bus facilities.

The grant arrives in addition to the upcoming $60 million that Muni will be receiving as part of the federal grant for the state's high-speed rail plan, which is earmarked for the Central Subway and justified as an improvement to local transit connections to the high-speed rail.

BART is also getting $140 million in high-speed rail money, and $3.2 million in grant money today to improve real-time bus and rail arrival time signage at its intermodal stations.
