Glory be. After a ten-day shutdown that made the Sunset sad, the N-Judah and J-Church lines reopened for business this morning. Now the new section of track at the always sluggish intersection of Duboce and Church may make things move smoother. But we doubt it!

The improvements are meant to quicken the pace of trains through the interchange, which always slow down and come to a full stop anyway because it's the point at which drivers switch between manual and computer control. But also among the improvements at Duboce are pedestrian and bike-lane improvements, which will hopefully make life safer at this complicated intersection.

In any event, no more shuttle buses and no more having to listen to the conductors on the underground have to make lengthy announcements they aren't used to making about where and how to find said shuttle buses.

Update: Commenter VivaJackMurphy alerts us to the fact that an N-Judah train promptly broke down during rush hour at 7th and Irving this morning. And now the entire N line is running on a delay due to "overhead wire issues." In other words, "Business as usual."
