It's that time of year again where stylists dress actors to within an inch of their true personalities for the red carpet and product endorsement deals. That is to say, it's Academy Awards time! Where will you be watching the Super Bowl of cinema come Sunday? At a bar? At a chatty Oscar party? At home alone wondering why once again you haven't made the move to Hollywood to take a stab at The Industry? Have no fear. SFist is here to tell you where to go on Sunday night. Whether rooting for The Descendants, The Artist, or (the dreadful) Midnight in Paris, here are just a few places in San Francisco where you can cheer on your favorites of 2011.
- The Cinch: Holy smokes, do we love The Cinch. Cheap drinks, cozy back patio for smoking, lots of televisions, and a bevy of colorful regulars. Located in the murmuring heart of Polk Street, The Cinch provides the perfect contrast to Hollywood glitz, glamourous, and gratuitousness.
- Postrio (545 Post): On Sunday Postrio will screen the show as well as offer $8 vodka cocktails available throughout the entirety of the show.
- Any bar in the Castro: Seriously. Even Moby Dick's and Lucky 13 will probably screen the awards. Just stumble into any watering hole. You can't go wrong.
- Cityhouse at Parc 55 Hotel (55 Cyril Magnin Street): Starting at 3pm, Cityhouse at Parc55 will air the pre-show and show. They will also serve half priced bubbly, popcorn, and other movie-going fare.
- Balboa Theatre (3630 Balboa): No need getting dirty going downtown for Sunday's ego extravaganza. The outer Richmond's Balboa Theater will broadcast the Academy Awards live on the big screen. Beginning at 3:30 p.m., they're asking guests to dress "up or down as your favorite nominated movie (literal translation and bad puns allowed), or as a movie star." Best costume winners can score movie passes, DVDs, posters, t-shirts, and more. Tickets are $10.
