The East Bay Asian Youth Center started a new program this week to stop sex workers from doing business in their neighborhood. According to KTVU, "Neighbors along International Boulevard in Oakland have long been fed up with the blight of prostitution on their streets." So, residents and community members are working with police to send out "Dear John" letters to customers who sought and purchased quickies in the area.
"Businesses and neighbors would watch for prostitution, take note of the John's license plate number. Participants would forward that information to the youth center, which would then pass it on to the police who in turn would send out the letter," KTVU goes on to report.
How...creepy?
Neighbors have also gone to the effort to make signs, like the one pictured here, to inform johns that they're fed up with the massive amounts of van-rocking, if you will, in the area.
Be sure to look inside your mailboxes come mid-July, which is when the first batch of accusatory letters will go out.
