This morning around 10:15 a.m, a truck carrying a load of "plastic chairs and oxygen tanks" hit a wall on the eastbound lanes of the San Mateo-Hayward bridge — causing it to explode mid-span. No other cars were damaged in the crash and Bay City News reports the driver was able to get away without a scratch, but the accident closed down the eastbound lanes of Highway 92. Rubbernecking on the westbound side also slowed down traffic. The fire was extinguished by 10:39 this morning, but CHP reports the cabin of the truck was completely destroyed. Yikes! Be careful with those oxygen and plastic chair shipments, delivery drivers. [KTVU]
