Last August, Mechthild Schröer was shot near Union Square while visiting San Francisco from Germany with her husband and family. The story was some teenagers, spilling out of an overcrowded under-18 party at a comedy club on Mason Street, got into a gun battle, and Schröer was caught in the cross-fire. Finally, the SFPD is set to announce this afternoon that they've made arrests in the case.
Despite announcing that the SFPD had ID'd the shooters and would be making arrests as soon as a couple of weeks after the incident -- and simultaneously chastising the citizenry of San Francisco for not creating more of an outcry over the incident -- then police chief George Gascon wasn't able to add these arrests to his resume before leaving his position. Now KRON 4 is waiting for a news conference to start this afternoon at which the police are expected to make the announcement of the arrests. UPDATE: The SFPD have made 7 arrests according to the Chron, and they're seeking and 8th suspect who is still at large. More details about the identities of those arrested to come.
Stefan Schröer, the husband of the victim, recently told reporters, "I have the good feeling that the authorities here in SF are very seriously trying to administer justice in this case."
