S.F. Mayor Gavin Newsom condemned Sunday night's theater district shooting, one that killed Mechthild Schroeer, a 50-year-old German tourist.
"On behalf of our entire city, I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mechthild Schroeer, who died needlessly from this senseless violence, and to those who were injured in these disturbing incidents," Newsom said in a written statement.
Schroeer, an elementary school rector, was "hit by stray gunfire during a battle between rival groups attending an under-18 party at a private club," reports SFGate. And, if Internet rumblings are to be believed, SF Weekly commenter "Billy Bob," alleges that "this happened outside the entrance to the comedy club on 414 Mason street, that held a private party with a bunch of young oakland / richmond gangbanger kids."
SFGate confirms that the private party in question was, in fact, held at the San Francisco Comedy College and Clubhouse.
San Francisco police have detained five people in connection with last night's shooting.
