Marking the 25th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, San Francisco celebrated with a march and volunteering wherein hundred gathered "throughout the city to help with gardening, tree-planting and litter cleanup activities." Around the country, various celebration were held in honor of the slain civil rights leader. (Also, in related news, First Lady Michelle Obama turned 47 today. She celebrated the day volunteering with her family.)
