On Sunday, during a rally for World Homeless Day starting at Civic Center, activists took over a vacant San Francisco residential hotel in the Tenderloin. IndyBay reveals that the Creative Housing Liberation and other grous occupied the Leslie Hotel at 581 Eddy Street, which has been vacant for two years.

As of this morning, the building remains occupied by activist and a banner reading "Housing Justice Respect" is visible outside the hotel.

Before the takeover, loads of young urban types gathered at Civic Center Plaza for a rally with speakers and music, "featuring a young Latina girl asserting our need 'hacer una vida mejor/to make a better life' and a stirring rendition of the song 'Yuppie, yuppie stole my pad.'
