As part of the annual Banned Books Week, San Francisco Public Library will celebrate the 50th anniversary of To Kill a Mockingbird on Tuesday night. The classic Harper Lee novel is on the American Library Association’s Office of Intellectual Freedom’s most frequently banned classic books list.

Tomorrow night's event, which is hosted by esteemed book editor and critic Oscar Villalon will include a screening of the short documentary Hey, Boo: To Kill A Mockingbird & Harper Lee, followed by a book discussion with San Francisco authors Jewelle Gomez, Andrew Sean Greer, and Michelle Richmond.

Additionally, the library is having a daily online Banned Books Blog Challenge for teens, which spotlights titles that have been banned across the U.S., many of which were written for a teen audience. The grand prize is a Flip camcorder.
