The golden voice of Jessye Norman started the San Francisco Symphony’s 2010-2011 season with Aaron Copland’s “In the Beginning” on opening night Tuesday, September 7. And the season continues in high form, led, of course, by the indomitable Michael Tilson Thomas. Highlights include the world premiere of Rufus Wainwright’s “Five Shakespeare Sonnets,” (Wainwright will also be the featured vocalist); the Mutter-Bashmet-Harrell Trio performing an all-Beethoven lineup of string trios; and a closing performance of Beethoven’s magnificent and often-overlooked “Missa solemnis.”
