Yes, stolen bikes are a dime a dozen in this town, but this particular story tugs at the heart strings. Streetsblog reports that on May 16, a nine-year-old special needs child's BuddyBike was stolen from the garage of the family's apartment complex near North Point and Polk.
Update: SFPD has confirmed that they have the bike at their Central Station, and it will be returned to the family this afternoon.
A BuddyBike is an "inline tandem bicycle that places the stoker in the front seat while the rear rider controls the steering making it especially beneficial for special needs children who otherwise would not be able to experience the thrill of riding a bicycle."
SFPD says that there are only three BuddyBikes in SF and 450 across the country, so it should be pretty easy to spot.
The suspect is described as a white male, 5’ 8”- 5’ 10” tall, 25-30 years old, with a shaved head, and was last seen wearing dark clothing.
