Plenty of show options this week with local favorites Maus Haus at Hemlock Tuesday, Oakland-based experimental folk act tUnE-yArDs at Rickshaw Stop Thursday and the previously profiled Weekend at Hemlock Sunday.
Our featured act this week, however, is YACHT. Initially conceived as the solo outlet of Portland-based electro-pop mastermind Jona Bechtolt (ex-The Blow), YACHT blew away just about everyone last year with their quirky DFA release See Mystery Light. Inspired by the likes of Talking Heads, White Rainbow, T-Pain, The B-52's and labelmates LCD Soundsystem, the genre-bending album stands as one of the more unique and downright enjoyable records of 2009 -- if you slept on this one, do yourself a favor and grab the album's unusually catchy lead-off single Psychic City immediately. YACHT is keeping busy this week with a live appearance at The Independent Thursday evening, an after party DJ set at Milk late Thursday night and a free show at Amoeba Friday.
As always, there are several other solid show options this week including the previously profiled Toro Y Moi with Caribou at The Independent tonight, instrumental math-rock duo Silian Rail at Milk Thursday, Sacramento's excellent electronic quintet Sister Crayon at Rickshaw Stop Friday and the recently Pitchfork-approved Magic Bullets at Bottom of the Hill Sunday.
