What with Muni prepared to unleash its latest round of service cuts and fare increases, people are more concerned than ever. Such as SF Supervisors, Muni drivers, the lowly and forgotten Muni passenger - many of these types and more will gather at City Hall today for a noon rally.
San Francisco Supes David Campos and John Avalos will lead the masses at today's protest. According to SF Appeal, the two will "call for the transportation authority to seek 'more progressive sources of revenue.'"
Can't make the rally? Of course you can't; it's at noon on a Wednesday. If interested, here's another repair-Muni option: SPUR and Supe Sean Elsbernd have been working tirelessly to get Muni reform change on the November ballot. The measure would significantly alter "work rules in the bargaining agreements with the drivers." Why is this a problem, you ask? Well, according to SPUR, "The reason for the problem has become increasingly clear. Because the City Charter sets wages and benefits by an automatic formula, management does not have any leverage when it comes time to negotiating work rules. We must set up a true collective bargaining system if we want Muni to improve."
