In an effort to generate anywhere from $2 to $3 million a year, Mayor Gavin Newsom says he's warming up to the idea of citywide Sunday meters. Right now only waterfront and Embarcadero meters operate on Sundays.

According to CBS 5, "[the mayor's spokesman Tony Winnicker] said Newsom is entertaining the idea of Sunday parking meter hours as a pragmatic choice, given the impacts the proposed MUNI cuts would have on senior citizens and the disabled."

"None of us want service cuts, none of us want fare increases, none of us want parking meters to go up," Winnicker explained. "There's no solution to this budget crisis that's going to make everybody happy."

While the mayor will (hopefully) go forward with Sunday meter enforcement, he does oppose extending meter hours on weeknights.
