Over in Merced Heights, an 83-year-old man died during a fire. SF Chron reports: "James Childs was found inside his home on the 200 block of Byxbee Street east of Junipero Serra Boulevard after firefighters beat back flames that broke out about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday." No word yet as to the cause of the blaze.
