Those who have attended Coachella are probably familiar with the Empire Polo Club in Indio. And those who are avid Phish heads (or those who pay attention to our advertisers here on SFist) probably know about Phish Festival 8, which is happening on those same hallowed and well-stomped grounds -- this year over the 3-day Halloween weekend.
In honor of this desert gathering of the jam band gods, SFist is glad to bring you our first haiku contest in some time. Please compose a haiku in the comments (that's strictly a 5-7-5 syllable structure, friends!) using the words "jam" and "desert." The winner, as chosen by SFist editors, will receive a pair of tickets to the three-day fest, courtesy of Golden Voice. This contest will end promptly at 2 pm Pacific Time on Monday, October 5th. UPDATE - LIMIT OF 2 HAIKUs PER ENTRANT.
For the non-poets among you, or once this contest is through, you may buy your tickets here.
UPDATE: Our winner is commenter the7word7smith whose simple and witty haiku, while arrogant, amused us most:
Under desert sky
The jam turns you to jelly
Signed contest winner
[Note to future haiku contestants: We will not make a habit of awarding poems with lines that declare your haiku the winner, and we will remain sticklers for the 5-7-5 and other rules.]
