Some boys would request a trip to Disneyland. Some would like a shiny, red Ferrari. Some would want to touch a perky boob. Eleven-year-old Henry Mulvey of Massachusetts, however, wanted to ride the F-Market as one of his requests. See, Henry, who was born with a medical disorder, has a thing for trolley cars. After asking the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help him out, Henry was sent to SF yesterday where he "rode five trolleys and a cable car, bumping the number of trolleys he was ridden to 'up near 100.'"
According to the Mercury News, "Henry's lifelong passion for trolleys has grown alongside a monster that no parent wants to see in a child. Born with a neuromuscular mitochondrial disease that weakens his muscles and bones, his mobility is restricted to a wheelchair, and his communication to hand signals and electronic keyboards. But while the disorder may shorten his life span, it in no way affects Henry's brain — or, of course, the straight-A student's passion for electric railroad cars."
Straight As? Kudos to you, Henry. We would have dropped out of school due to habitually mainlining Pizza Rolls and Hubba-Bubba.
Newsom also proclaimed yesterday "Henry Mulvey Day." He also spent some time in San Jose, riding their street cars. Check out a full report on Henry and his trolley fetish after the jump.
