Yesterday we were honored to witness a true battle for the ages, a record that is sure to stand the test of time, and a new standard for all that is right in gamesmanship and sporting -- all from a local champion.

Ladies and gentlement, we give you San Jose's Mr. Joey Chestnut, who yesterday secured his place in history by eating sixty-six Nathan's hotdogs in 12 minutes in Nathan's yearly 4th of July competition. In doing so, Chestnut earned the coveted "Yellow Mustard Belt."

World-renowned Takeru Kobayashi's claims of "arthritic jaw" should not dim Chestnut's accomplishment, as Chestnut's performance was one for the record books. He broke his own record of 59.5, which he set last month. Chestnut also smashed the previous record for this yearly contest, 53.5, which was set by Kobayashi, the only person alive whose sole income comes from competitive eating and related endorsements. (Mr. Chestnut has a day job).

Previously, Chestnut's main claim to fame has been his prowess in eating chicken wings.
