Nothing gets our treasure hunting heart pounding as fast as a crowded taco truck tucked away on a parking lot. Unfortunately the delicious meal we wolf down sometimes makes our stomach heave just as fast. Fear not, we've located the healthiest taco truck south of the Department of Public Health.

Los Compadres at the corner of Polk and Hayes serves a delicious soft corn taco, Jalisco style. It is fresh, juicy and spicy with the perfect mix of tender meat and crunchy veggies. The sign offering Lengua, Sesos and Cabeza had our head spinning, but we were too late to get any tongue (nothing new there) and the brain and head meat tacos had been removed from the menu for lack of motivated buyers. We had to settle on carnitas, carne asada and pork al pastor. The carne asada trully rocked our palate.

The fire engine red truck is the third venture of a familly business. The first Taqueria is 116 Grand steet in South San Francisco, the second is a well loved truck at Folsom and Spear. But the taco truck on Polk and Hayes caters to a special audience: City Hall and the Department of Public Health, both a couple blocks way. On the first sign of stomach unease they could close it faster than it take us to clean a toilet bowl. The truck is still standing and we're going back for tongue.
