So we were stunned to hear that always-hilarious Phillyist editor Star C. Foster died suddenly over the weekend. Star's emails always saw the lighter side of our server problems, spam attacks, and other editorial woes, and we always enjoyed reading her commentary in our inbox.
Star collapsed Sunday morning from a seizure and died of a pulmonary embolism on the way to the hospital. It turned out the pain in her foot that she'd mentioned in passing to some friends was from a tumor in her leg that had metastasized and spread to her heart. So horrible, and Star was only 33.
Star's family has set up a scholarship fund in her name. Our thoughts at SFist go out to Star's family and friends, and the grieving writers at Phillyist.
Star Foster, 1973-2006. After the jump, our former editor SFist Eve shares her memories of Phillyist Star.
