What is there to say about the Barry in Drag photos that hasn't already been said? Like everyone else, our first reaction was "what the..?" followed quickly by "that's pretty funny" with a little bit of "hmmm...that does look like steroid bloat" thrown in at the end for good measure. You have to hand it to the dude, in one fell photo-op swoop, he managed to get himself some really good publicity. Who doesn't love it when big, burly athletic dudes show up in drag?
Why it seems to be resonating, though, is because it showed a side of Barry most people had heard he had but never really seen, like a sense of humor (he WAS pretty funny- check out the video). Or an ability to laugh at himself or show that he's having fun. Or even smile. Those photos are everywhere-- on ESPN, on sports blogs, even amongst the Nicole Richie/Lindsey Lohan chatter on "Oh No They Didn't." And the reaction is pretty much positive. There's even some speculating about how it'll be good for the Giants because Your San Francisco Giants have been known for having frosty cold clubhouses and now, with the whole American Idol stunt, that appears to be changing. We're sure that at this very moment, statheads everywhere are calculating team performances when they're star player appears in drag in spring training (the SPADS stat).
But still, people couldn't help but wonder what got into the Barrisimo. After all, this is a man not known for his P.R. savvy. As a result, it couldn't help but be noticed by people that the day also marked the appearance of cameras that will be used in filming Barry's new reality show. Which means that this whole thing could be part of some elaborate stunt to help make him come off as a good guy on his show. Bad, bad, Barry.
Oh, whatever, it's still pretty cool. But two days in a row? Don't kill the joke, Barry.
