Fleet Week may only be a little less than a month away, but that still hasn't kept us from already hitting the phones to find out whose friend of a friend of a friend has a roof deck and a BBQ with which to watch the Blue Angels aerial show from. Which is the only way to watch them, if you...err...wait...strike that.
Last week, the Navy made official what hadn't been official as of yet- there will be no Blue Angels this year during Fleet Week. Instead, we'll get Canada's version of the Blue Angels, the Snowbirds. The Navy is claiming that they can't make it this year due to scheduling conflicts and a rule stating they can't perform in the same City two years in a row. This hasn't stopped the Angels, however, from performing every year in the City (except right after 9/11) since 1981. Considering that each performance is usually greeted with complaints over loud noises and excessive military glorification, we wonder if all of this is pretty much just the Navy's way of saying to hell with ya. We usually just saw the show as nothing more than cool-ass planes doing cool-ass stunts over cool-ass scenery and the noises being just something we had to deal with in order to see the cool-ass planes doing their cool-ass stunts, but what do we know. While disappointed and hope it doesn't affect what is usually one of the best weekends of the year, we're still gonna be looking for that roof-deck with BBQ.
